The Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA) hosted the last of the five district Final IDP (Integrated Development Plan) Assessments on 13 August 2024, in De Aar with all the nine (9) municipalities in the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality. Similar assessments have already been conducted in the four (4) other districts of the province. An IDP is a comprehensive and inclusive plan that outlines a municipality’s priorities and strategies for economic and social development plans and is a critical component of the Municipal Systems Act, which requires that all municipalities in South Africa develop and regularly review their IDPs. The Act also requires that municipalities consult with their communities and other stakeholders in the development of their IDP. The assessments are done to identify gaps in the final IDP’s and craft mechanisms for assisting and supporting municipalities across the Province. The outcome of the assessments is communicated to the Municipalities with the comments of the MEC of COGHSTA as prescribed by the Municipal Systems Act. Earlier in June 2024, the Department hosted engagement sessions with all municipalities in the Province to, assess whether municipalities, during the current IDP review process (2024/2025) have identified areas in which the IDP (2022 – 2026) needs to be amended; assist and support municipalities with integration and consolidation of the programme and projects of external stakeholders like sector departments and private sector; and to grant sector departments the opportunity to engage with municipalities on their respective planned projects for the financial year 2024 – 2025, for the projects to find expression in the Municipal IDPs.DEPARTMENT OF COGHSTA FINAL IDP ASSESSMENTS
