On Thursday, 08 August 2024, the Head of the Department of COGHSTA, Mr Bafedile Lenkoe with the Chief Director of the Human Settlements Unit, Mr Gratitude Booysen, and the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Department, Mr Rocky Stander, convened a meeting with all the eighteen (18) contractors appointed to be part of the build project of the 1 Billion Rand Presidential Housing Project, launched by President Cyril Ramaphosa on 18 January 2024 in the Northern Cape Province. The meeting was also attended by the Regional Heads of the Department of COGHSTA in the five (5) Districts of the Province, as well as the two Implementing Agents (IAs) that will be overseeing the entire project. The purpose of the meeting was to ensure synergy and common understanding between all the participants and to urge all contractors to ensure that quality is not compromised and unnecessary delays are avoided. HOD Lenkoe, said "This massive pilot project in the Northern Cape should be a springboard for you to access similar opportunities elsewhere in the Country, because there is a big interest to see how the Northern Cape manages this frontloading project. We must not disappoint our communities because they rely on us collectively to provide them with decent and quality houses within a short space of time as per our contractual obligations". Lenkoe, further said that the project budget is ring-fenced and there will be no challenges in processing payments to contractors who are able to prove that quality work was done for the invoices they seek payments for, and that the Department will ensure that there are no undue delays in making payments to contractors for work done. The contractors committed to observing the time frames of the project and to adhere to these to ensure that the objective of fast-tracking the delivery of quality houses to communities is achieved.
