MEC Bentley Vass, responsible for the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA) in the Northern Cape, with a total of twenty (20) Mayors and Speakers from across the Northern Cape, hosted a successful provincial event, to relaunch the Title Deeds Restoration Programme (TDRP) and the hand over of 200 title deeds to beneficiaries at a provincial event hosted in the Gamagara Local Municipality (John Taolo Gaetsewe District), on Friday, 19 September 2025.
The relaunch also marked the revival of the Title Deeds Fridays Campaign, which aims to empower residents by providing them with the legal documentation that affirms their ownership of their homes.
Addressing the event, MEC Vass said ‘’We host our Provincial Relaunch, which is not just another day. It is a day of restoration, a day of dignity, and a day of hope. As we gather to hand over 200 title deeds, we are not simply exchanging a piece of paper for a handshake. We are restoring the rightful ownership of property, a fundamental human right that was denied to so many for generations. This program is part of a broader effort to address historical disparities in property ownership and promote social justice within the province’’.
MEC Vass, also encouraged the Mayors, Speakers and Councillors, who attended the relaunch event, to ‘’tackle core service delivery commitments to citizens’’. This included fixing challenges of water and sanitation, refuse removals, fixing of potholes, and sorting out electricity and human settlements challenges confronting communities throughout the Northern Cape.
A consumer awareness session was also hosted by the Department of COGHSTA, to share information with communities about the importance of wills, title deeds and other services rendered by the Department.
MEC Vass concluded by encouraging all municipalities to step up efforts of delivering title deeds to beneficiaries throughout the Northern Cape, through the Title Deeds Fridays programme.
